Out-Of-Hours Medical Care

Providing Out-Of-Hours medical care to patients throughout Mid-West region.

Nurse Advice   ๐Ÿฉบ

Our dedicated team of Triage Nurses can offer medical advice over the telephone.

Nurse advice is free advice offered by the Triage Nurse and is based on the information received from the caller.

The advice offered by the triage nurse is evidence-based and it is important that the patient is happy with the advice. The final decision to follow the advice rests with the patient.

Shannondoc's central call centre is located on the grounds of St. Camillus' Hospital, Limerick City.

The call centre is staffed round-the-clock and handles over 110,000 calls annually.

Appointments   ๐Ÿ“

Treatment Centres strategically located throughout the Mid-West region.

The triage nurse may occasionally book an appointment with a doctor at your nearest Treatment Centre if your condition requires medical attention.

Once an appointment is booked, your details and medical symptoms will be sent via secure transmission to the treatment centre. The GP on duty is informed and will make the necessary preparations for your appointment. It is advised that you arrive at the treatment centre at the scheduled time of your appointment to avoid delays in treatment. Please bring your Medical card to the centre along with anything relevant to your condition. Please note that Shannondoc does not operate a Walk-in service. Please phone 0818 123500 and speak to a nurse before making an appointment.

Shannondoc operates 12 fully-equipped treatment centres, located throughout the Mid-West region.

Located in counties Clare, Limerick and North Tipperary, Treatment Centres operate like your local GP surgery, only during Out-Of-Hours. Sited near the main population centres and major road networks, the centres are usually under 20 minutes by car journey.

Home Visits   ๐Ÿš‘

A fleet of fully equipped Mobile units responding to urgent house calls.

In exceptional circumstances the triage nurse may decide to dispatch a Mobile Response Unit to your location.

Once your details are sent to the mobile response unit, the driver may contact you in advance to ask for directions to your location and may give you an approximate time of arrival. If you have your current GPS coordinates or postcode this may also assist the driver in finding your location quickly. If you have a vehicle near your location, it is helpful to turn on the hazard warning lights or leave the outside lights of your house on. Please remember to confine any dangerous animals on the property, such as guard dogs.

Shannondoc maintains a fleet of vehicles for it's mobile operations and medical support services.

Equipped with emergency medical equipment and linked via wireless to a central tracking station, the Mobile Response Units of the Shannondoc fleet have travelled 3.1 million kilometres since the creation of Shannondoc in 2002. Responding to urgent house calls, the vehicles also operate as support vehicles for our medical specimen collection service and laboratory delivery vehicles. Operated by drivers with advanced driving skills and possessing a keen knowledge of their local environ, the fleet is the backbone of Shannondoc's mobile operations.

If you have a medical issue that requires urgent medical attention, call Shannondoc on Lo-call 0818 123500

๐Ÿฅ

Origins

Shannondoc was created in 2002 to provide an improved medical service to patients within the Mid-West region. Operating mainly "out-of-hours", ensures that Shannondoc patients have continuous round-the-clock medical support outside of normal surgery hours.

๐Ÿ‘ฅ

The Team

Our dedicated medical team consists of 120 Doctors, 30 Nurses and 50 support staff enroled in various administrative, technical and support functions. Operating from the Central Call Centre in Limerick and from 12 Treatment Centres located throughout the Mid-West region of Ireland, all staff have an essential role in maintaining the operations of the service. While many staff are highly trained in a wide variety of specialised medical fields and technical roles, all staff are dedicated to providing a modern world-class medical service for the 21st century.

๐ŸŽง

Central Call Centre

The Central Call Centre is located at St. Camillus' Hospital in Limerick City and handles over 110,000 medical cases each year. All medical cases are processed through the Call Centre. Participating family GP's recieve full reports on their patients if their medical needs were tended to during the out-of-hours service to assist in follow-on care.
